Glancing at this title, it could be about my Ph.D. dissertation. Yes, I was working on a wonderful packaging for apples.  But, what I am talking about here is a wonderful packaging for a computer, which has a partly bitten apple on it.  Yes, it is the MacBook Air and I think their packaging design and improvement effort is wonderful! Yesterday, a box was delivered to my house.  Although I know that I was expecting a MacBook Air in the mail but the box looks small. I brought out my old MacBook package for a comparison (Yes I still keep them after 6+ years) and start to do some comparison.  Yes, the new shipping box is much smaller and I realise that the new MacBook is slightly smaller than the old one but it cannot be that much different.  Here is the comparison.  The old one (the silver one on the bottom) is slightly larger but it wasn't that much smaller.  The carton inside it was not that much different in size either.     (Picture...

เมื่อสมัยก่อนเราจะรู้จัก "การศึกษาทางไกล"​ หรือ Distance Education เช่นมูลนิธิการศึกษาทางไกล หรือมหาวิทยาลัยเปิดอย่างสุโขทัยธรรมาธิราช เน้นที่การเพิ่มโอกาสการเรียนรู้ให้กับผู้เรียนที่อยู่ห่างไกล จึงมีนิยามชัดเจนว่ามีระยะทางเป็นตัวกำหนดรูปแบบการศึกษาแบบนี้ "online learning" ในช่วง COVID-19 ก็มีนิยามที่คล้ายกันแต่ไม่ใช่ระยะทางจริง ๆ แต่เป็น social distance แต่ในความเป็นจริง Online-learning ยังมีประเด็นเรื่องเวลา เพราะ online learning เป็นวิธีการหนึ่งของ asynchronous learning ที่แปลว่าผู้เรียน และผู้สอนไม่ต้องเข้ามาเรียนพร้อม ๆ กันได้ การเรียนแบบ online learning จึงนับเป็นเป็นวิธีการที่จะใช้เทคโนโลยีในการทำให้เกิดการเรียนรู้โดยก้าวข้ามข้อจำกัดทั้งทางด้านเวลาและระยะทาง ถึงแม้ว่าเทคโนโลยีจะเป็นหัวใจสำคัญที่ทำให้เกิดการเรียน online ได้ และส่งผลกับประสิทธิภาพในการเรียนรู้เป็นอย่างมาก แต่การออกแบบการเรียนรู้ online จะต้องเป็น pedagogical orientation แล้วจึงไปเลือกเทคโนโลยีที่เหมาะสม โดยจะเน้นไปที่ 2 เรื่อง คือ Communication & interaction ระหว่างผู้เรียนกับผู้...

"COVID-19 happens for a reason" เป็นคำกล่าวของอาจารย์ผู้ใหญ่ที่เคารพมากท่านหนึ่งที่พยายามเปลี่ยนแปลงการศึกษามาตลอด เมื่อมีสถานการณ์ COVID-19 ที่ถึงแม้จะทำให้พวกเราต้องทำงานกันหนักขึ้นเพื่อสนับสนุนการเรียนรู้ของนักศึกษา และยังต้องเพิ่มการดูแลนักศึกษาในหลาย ๆ เรื่องทั้งจิตใจ ความพร้อมในการเรียน online และ ภาระทางการเงิน จึงนับเป็นโอกาสที่จะทำให้เกิดการปฏิรูปการศึกษาขึ้น เป็น new normal for education ถึงแม้จะเกิดโดยที่พวกเราไม่ได้มีโอกาสเตรียมตัวกันมากนักก็ตาม Rethinking education for the new normal เมื่อมาคิดถึง new normal และได้ยินผู้มีประสบการณ์หลายท่านมาพูด โดยเฉพาะในช่วงการเรียนออนไลน์ เลยทำให้นึกว่า Blended Learning น่าจะเป็น new normal ทางการศึกษา โดยปกติแล้ว blended learning จะหมายถึงการเรียน online ผสมกับการเรียนแบบมาเจอหน้ากัน เรียกว่าใช้ประโยชน์จากการเรียนทั้งสองแบบให้ได้มากที่สุด  เป็นสิ่งที่ใช้กันอยู่ในมหาวิทยาลัยบางแห่ง และมีคนเขียนหนังสือเรื่องนี้ออกมามากมาย เล่มหนึ่งเป็นหนังสือของของ Katie Linder เจ้าของ podcast หลายอันทางด้านการศึกษา การ coach และ การ...

วันนี้เดินผ่านตู้หนังสือ สะดุดตากับหนังสือเล่มสวยชื่อ "รอยลูกปัด" ของ คุณหมอ บัญชา พงษ์พานิช เลยหยิบติดมือมานั่งอ่าน ยังไม่ได้อ่านถึงเนื้อหาของหนังสือก็สะดุดตากับคำนิยมของ อ.ภูธร ภูมะธน ที่กล่าวถึงคำว่า " เชลยศักดิ์ "​ เลยไปหาความหมายของคำนี้เพิ่มเติม ก็พบว่า  สำนักงานราชบัณฑิตยสภา ได้กล่าวถึงคำนี้ ไว้ใน 2 ด้าน คือ การเอาคำสองคำมารวมกัน แปลได้ทำนองว่าผู้ที่ถูกข้าศึกจับตัวมา และเป็นผู้มีศักดิ์ กำลัง หรือฐานะสูง อย่างที่เห็นกันในละครเรื่อง "เชลยศักดิ์"  คำว่า "เชลยศักดิ์" เป็นคำโบราณ หมายความว่า อยู่นอกทำเนียบ นอกทะเบียน นั่นคือคนมีฝีมือแต่ไม่ได้ขึ้นทะเบียนอย่างเป็นทางการ จากคำนิยามทำให้มองคำนี้ได้ทั้งทางบวกและทางลบ ในทางลบ อาจดูว่าเป็นคน " เถื่อน " หรือไม่ถูกกฎหมาย แต่จริง ๆ แล้วอยากจะ focus ไปกับความหมายในเชิงบวกดังเช่นที่ อ.ภูธร ได้เขียนไว้ในคำนิยมของหนังสือว่าเป็น ผู้ที่ใฝ่เรียนรู้ด้วยตนเอง และนำพาให้เกิดเป็น สังคมของการเรียนรู้ กรณีนี้เป็นการกล่าวถึงผู้เขียนหนังสือเล่มนี้ว่าได้ศึกษา เรียนรู้ ทำความเข้าใจข้อมูลมาอย่างดี...

เมื่อวันหนึ่งมีเพื่อนในวงการบรรจุภัณฑ์ที่มีโอกาสได้รู้จักระหว่างเรียนหนังสือที่ Michigan State University ได้ติดต่อมา และชวนให้ทำ research study เล็ก ๆ เรื่องการรีไซเคิล งานนี้ได้ อ.สายลมกับติ๊กมาเป็นกำลังหลัก เราวางแผนทำงานกันอยู่ไม่นานนักเพื่อนร่วมงานก็เริ่มออกปฏิบัติการเก็บข้อมูลภาคสนามทันที กว่าจะได้มีเวลาออกไปกับเพื่อน ๆ ก็ปลายโปรเจคแล้ว ต้องขอบคุณติ๊กกับอ.สายลมมาก ๆ ที่มาเรียนรู้และทำงานร่วมกัน ทำให้งานสำเร็จไปด้วยดี ในขณะที่ผลวิจัยเรื่องการ recycle ขวด PET (ขวดที่มีลักษณะใส ๆ มีสัญลักษณ์ recycle เบอร์ 1) ไม่สามารถเปิดเผยได้ แต่ lesson learned จากโครงการนี้ก็เป็นประโยชน์กับความเข้าใจ เพื่อนำไปใช้กับการ recycle ในชีวิตประจำวัน 1. ฉลากและขวดถ้าเป็นพลาสติกชนิดเดียวกัน สามารถ recycle ด้วยกันได้ แต่ในบ้านเรามักจะเป็นคนละชนิดกัน ระบบในบ้านเราจึงเอาฉลากทั้งหมดออกจากขวดโดยไม่พิจารณาว่าฉลากจะเป็นชนิดไหน ผู้บริโภค ควรแกะฉลากออกจากขวด เพราะจะทำให้ขวดขายได้ราคาแพงขึ้น (เราอาจจะขายให้ซาเล้งได้ในราคาเดิม แต่คุณซาเล้งจะไปขายได้ราคาที่แพงขึ้น)  ผู้ผลิตและผู้ออกแบบบรรจุภัณฑ์ น่าจะ ...

COVID-19 has brought about many changes in the way we approach teaching and learning.  One big question about transforming the traditional teaching into online teaching (to be technically correct many called it remote teaching) is how are we going to assess students’ learning. In fact, this has always been an issue even before the online transformation. To many of us, educator, examination is the only way we are comfortable to use for assessment and evaluation.  Unfortunately, it does not work well for online/remote teaching especially when "trust" is not there in the first place.  When we talk about administering the online exam, the issue is usually around how would we proctor the exam so that we can prevent cheating.  Some exam proctoring tricks were shared around and many platforms are available.  However, I believe that, without trusting 💙 Of an educator and honest 💙 of the learners, there would not be anything that would work. Stand by Me has never been more beautiful like tonight when I listened to the acoustic version playing with the background of Lake Powell (a Man made lake on Colorado River through flooding of Glen Canyon). Not only the music is beautiful, the lyric has been so meaningful to me especially in time like this when stress is all around. Some days are heavier than others. Tonight, I wish there is someone who stand by me to have, to hold, or just to be a sounding board that I could voice out my stress.
