Around March and April of every year, I am usually asked to contribute an article to the annual book of "วันการพิมพ์ไทย".  Although I have always been a little worried (due to time constrained and an uncertainty if i could do well), I am grateful for the request because I can still contribute to the printing and packaging industry - the industry I owe greatly to because they put meaning into the things I love. This is a part of literature review about the trend I did when I was writing up a proposal for the Office of Industrial Economy.  Then, I extended the search a little further for preparing the talk on packaging trend for our focus group.  Here is the summary to it. My main literature to identify the 2020 trends are from 4 main sources: Mintel, Pira Smithers, Industrial Packaging and Packaging Strategies.  These 4 sources pointed out  3 main topics 🔺Lessen environmental impact 🔺Suit consumer lifestyle 🔺Enhance communication 💚 "Lessen environmental impact" seems to be the number one trend in all 4 sources plus other literatures that seems to indicate the same thing.  We look at lessen the environmental impact through packaging that reduces the impact both in term of raw material, manufacturing, and end of life and also through the packaging that preserve the product so we do not create more food loss.  This two have to be balance.  We do not want a p...

Glancing at this title, it could be about my Ph.D. dissertation. Yes, I was working on a wonderful packaging for apples.  But, what I am talking about here is a wonderful packaging for a computer, which has a partly bitten apple on it.  Yes, it is the MacBook Air and I think their packaging design and improvement effort is wonderful! Yesterday, a box was delivered to my house.  Although I know that I was expecting a MacBook Air in the mail but the box looks small. I brought out my old MacBook package for a comparison (Yes I still keep them after 6+ years) and start to do some comparison.  Yes, the new shipping box is much smaller and I realise that the new MacBook is slightly smaller than the old one but it cannot be that much different.  Here is the comparison.  The old one (the silver one on the bottom) is slightly larger but it wasn't that much smaller.  The carton inside it was not that much different in size either.     (Picture...

เมื่อวันหนึ่งมีเพื่อนในวงการบรรจุภัณฑ์ที่มีโอกาสได้รู้จักระหว่างเรียนหนังสือที่ Michigan State University ได้ติดต่อมา และชวนให้ทำ research study เล็ก ๆ เรื่องการรีไซเคิล งานนี้ได้ อ.สายลมกับติ๊กมาเป็นกำลังหลัก เราวางแผนทำงานกันอยู่ไม่นานนักเพื่อนร่วมงานก็เริ่มออกปฏิบัติการเก็บข้อมูลภาคสนามทันที กว่าจะได้มีเวลาออกไปกับเพื่อน ๆ ก็ปลายโปรเจคแล้ว ต้องขอบคุณติ๊กกับอ.สายลมมาก ๆ ที่มาเรียนรู้และทำงานร่วมกัน ทำให้งานสำเร็จไปด้วยดี ในขณะที่ผลวิจัยเรื่องการ recycle ขวด PET (ขวดที่มีลักษณะใส ๆ มีสัญลักษณ์ recycle เบอร์ 1) ไม่สามารถเปิดเผยได้ แต่ lesson learned จากโครงการนี้ก็เป็นประโยชน์กับความเข้าใจ เพื่อนำไปใช้กับการ recycle ในชีวิตประจำวัน 1. ฉลากและขวดถ้าเป็นพลาสติกชนิดเดียวกัน สามารถ recycle ด้วยกันได้ แต่ในบ้านเรามักจะเป็นคนละชนิดกัน ระบบในบ้านเราจึงเอาฉลากทั้งหมดออกจากขวดโดยไม่พิจารณาว่าฉลากจะเป็นชนิดไหน ผู้บริโภค ควรแกะฉลากออกจากขวด เพราะจะทำให้ขวดขายได้ราคาแพงขึ้น (เราอาจจะขายให้ซาเล้งได้ในราคาเดิม แต่คุณซาเล้งจะไปขายได้ราคาที่แพงขึ้น)  ผู้ผลิตและผู้ออกแบบบรรจุภัณฑ์ น่าจะ ...
